I enjoy yoga at Tree House Yoga Center as it works with all aspects of the practice, not just the asanas.

The setting is delightful as well, and adds to the wonderful body work done there, whether for general relaxation or for specific tension relief.

Mira’s Facial Formula:
Summer facial madness is upon me and I have been experimenting in the kitchen with various fruits, vegetables,  and other enticing botanicals. I thought I would share a new recipe each week for you to try at home. If you haven't experienced the bliss of lying down with a gooie green, purple, or orange colored face, feet elevated and a cooling eye pillow resting on your brow, you haven't lived. The recipe below is my latest favorite. It is at once cleansing, moisturizing, toning, and completely refreshing. My face and my mind felt clear and revitalized afterwards. Happy experimenting and enjoy!

Ingredients:
2-3T fresh plum juice or puree
1t. lemon juice either fresh or in the bottle
2T honey
1-2 t powdered oats to thicken slightly
1-2 d essential oil: I like geranium in this one
Blend all ingredients together well, mixture should be slightly thickened but still somewhat fluid and runny. Apply to face with fingers or a soft clean brush. Lie down for about 15 minutes with legs elevated. Rinse with warm water and smile.
My husband said my face was as soft and scented as flower petals :)
Remember that facials are on special all summer long and include a full body massage!
Have a lovely holiday weekend,
Mira, 720-352-2516

Staying Cool

Ayurveda says you can stay cool by eating cooling foods and herbs, staying out of the midday sun as much as possible, and keeping cool-tempered. Now is the season for salads and fruits and cooling herbal teas. I like peppermint/spearmint tea with a squeeze of lime. The other day I whipped up some strawberry lemonade by blending strawberries, some water and/or ice cubes, and some fresh lemon juice in a blender, and sweetening with sucanat. It was really delicious, kind of like a daiquiri w/o the alcohol. Herbs to favor this summer are fresh cilantro and mint, also cumin, coriander, and fennel. Stay away from lots of hot spicy foods and fried foods, and keep heavier meats to a minimum. Wear cool pale shades of blue and green. Keep a bottle of rosewater in the fridge (you can buy at Vitamin Cottage) and mist yourself or a loved one down for instant pitta pacification.  One Ayurvedic Vaidya (doctor) recommended eating lots of pears to my husband who has a lot of Pitta in his constitution.  Don't skip meals but eat a bit lighter this time of year, eating your biggest meal at midday. For your yoga practice, easy on the vigorous vinyasas and sun sals, esp during Pitta time of day (10am to 2pm). Poses that twist/compress/then open and stretch the liver area and mid torso are good at releasing heat from the body. (Revolved head to knee, Bow) Forward folds are cooling and calming, as are restorative floor postures. Left nostril pranayama and ujjayi breathing are good this time of year. Easy on the heavier breathing like bhastrika and breath of fire. Hanging out with mellow, sweet individuals is very pitta pacifying. Unless you have lots of Kapha, some ice cream on a hot after

Summer Facials are back

I love summertime because I love concocting summer facials for you.  That's why I've included massage with the facial, this way you don't need to choose or miss out on massage to experience a facial. The summer facial features organic botanicals, some are powdered, and blended with various luscious liquids like milk, rosewater, honey, and green tea, and also fresh fruits like strawberries, and cherries, or veggies like leaf lettuce, cucumber, and avocado, and some healing extracts like green tea and helichrysm, and then some wonderful high quality essential oils like rose, geranium, lavendar...you get the idea. These are mixed for you from scratch with love and care, and applied as food for your face and soul. While they are busy cleansing, toning, exfoliating, nourishing, moisturizing, and revitalizing your face, you will be busy receiving a full body massage. Cooling rose quartz stones are especially smooth, yummy, and pitta pacifying, and bring a rosy glow to the complexion. As for the massage, I bring in some Ayurvedic features like a warm oil massage for the scalp and an exquisite marma massage for the head and face that I learned from Dr. Lad at the Ayurvedic Institute. Call or email soon for your appointment! (Normally $108......only $95 through the summer for the 90 minute summer facial which includes massage)
