Fall Ayurveda Tips
We are moving into the harvest season,
with cooler nights, dry air and less daylight. There is fullness
this time of year . . . take advantage of
the bountiful harvest. It is a time to partake in the fruits
of your labor, the harvest time. Slow down; savor the nutrient
rich vegetables and fruits available locally. This is also
a transition time of year which can be tricky! It is especially
important to listen to your inner wisdom. Every day is different.
The weather vacillates from hot to cold, bright sun to cloudy
gray, and wet to dry so it is crucial that you tune in to
your needs – your rhythm. This is Pitta moving into Vata
with a little transitory Kapha. People often get sick during
the seasonal change as their system recalibrates. So meditate,
listen deep inside your heart and act in alignment with your
truth to stay in balance this fall!
Even if you don’t know your dosha or constitution: Vata (air
element, spacey, moving, ethereal, creative, anxious, wiry),
Pitta (hot, fire element, agitated, determined, capable,
impatient) or Kapha (earth element, loyal, steady, nurturing
sluggish, depressed, heavy), here are some general tips: Make salads if you
feel Pitta or Kapha and sauté your veggies and add ginger and garlic to them
if you are Vata. Stay warm and lubricated if you are Vata. Cool, hydrated and
"half speed ahead" if you are Pitta; and moving, active and
positive thinking if you are Kapha. Eats lots of fresh fruits
and seasonal veggies regardless of your dosha and drink extra
water as it is dry now! Respect what you know about your
self and ask for help if you are having a hard time. Listen
inside and be a true friend to yourself this fall. Remember
to nourish yourself in every way, not just with food. Walk,
practice yoga, set up a massage, have a warm aromatherapy
bath and simply rest.
