I enjoy yoga at Tree House Yoga Center as it works with all aspects of the practice, not just the asanas.

The setting is delightful as well, and adds to the wonderful body work done there, whether for general relaxation or for specific tension relief.

Roshan Classical Indian Music Concert

Join us for a free night of Indian classical music this Friday at the University of Colorado. Three world renowned musicians, Rajeev Taranath, Roshan Bhartiya (www.sweetsitar.com), and Arup Chattopadhyay will perform. Internationally acclaimed performer and award-winning composer, Rajeev Taranath is today one of the world's leading exponents of the sarod. In addition to earning a degree from the Sarladavi Music Institute in Delhi, India, Roshan Jamal Bhartiya has performed throughout the world, recorded in Bollywood, played regularly for All India Radio (A-Grade sitar), and taught at Tritantri Music School in Amsterdam, Holland from 1971 to 1995. An A-Grade tabla artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan Television, Arup Chattopadhyay records and performs frequently for the Indian broadcasting network. In 1998, Arup was selected by the living legend, Pandit Ravi Shankar, to accompany him and has since then been the maestro's accompanist of choice in many concerts world wide. This is an extraordinary chance for everyone to see and hear these musical heroes in live performance.

The Wish to Grow Meditation

This is such a wonderful tool for tapping into your Self and letting go of resistance, negative emotions and whatever tension may be hindering your bliss. We all hit up against challenging aspects of ourselves and our lives as we continue to grow spiritually. Sometimes it feels like things are worse and it is hard. How to gracefully move through the tough times? I always fall back on this practice and it NEVER FAILS.

Sit quietly and become aware of your self, what ever state you may be in . . . Take a few breaths in through the nose. Just follow your breath down toward your abdomen and let go a little. Feel your seat and spread into the earth, kind of nestle and wriggle a bit. Take your time. You can imagine spreading your base and rooting down into the earth. Keeping this feeling, sit up tall through your spine and let your face soften. Draw a breath gently into the heart center and feel it expand. This may take a few repetitions. Then, repeat to your self “I wish to surrender, open and grow” as you begin to exhale. Feel the words and feel the desire behind the words. Tap into the place inside of you that wishes to grow.  Simply repeat the phrase “I wish to surrender, open and grow” with your breath. 10 – 15 minutes will go by pretty easily if you immerse yourself in this practice. Try it every day for a week. Just practice . . . Enjoy the sweet effects.

I’d like to thank Faith, Babaji’s wife, for first teaching me this up at Shoshoni yoga retreat several years ago. It was very hard at first for me to sit still, and relax with meditation. She talked us through the practice and it permeated me to the core of my heart and is always there. For more on meditation see www.shoshoni.org.

HAVE a Joyful Thanksgiving and know how GRATEFUL I am for your support, love and commitment as we continue to grow together.

Namaste,

Yogeshwari Cindy Lawrence
